What do Canadians think?

With the race on to build increasingly powerful AI and Canadians already feeling some of the impacts, what do Canadians think about AI? In March 2025, we commissioned a national Environics online poll of the following question:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is developing rapidly, bringing benefits like improvements in healthcare and productivity alongside challenges like job disruption and safety risks. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement: "Canada’s elected leaders should be doing more to prepare for AI’s impacts on our lives."

The results are definitive:

  • 75% of Canadians agree with the statement "Canada’s elected leaders should be doing more to prepare for AI’s impacts on our lives."
  • 38% strongly agree with the statement.
  • The numbers were universal across provinces, age demographics, and socio-economic status, with all segments polling between 66% and 82%.

Full results and methodology here.

What this means: Canadians are almost universally concerned about AI's impacts and they want to see politicians address the issue. The results also make clear that AI is a nonpartisan issue! This makes sense given that it impacts causes dear to every political constituency. Whether it be privacy and national security, safety and fairness, jobs and education, AI is a concern for everyone.
