What’s at stake
AI is bringing a tsunami of disruption and risks to our lives. From jobs and education to safety and culture, people are already feeling the pain—and it’s only the beginning. If nothing is done, people will get left behind, and major accidents could happen. We need bold action to ensure AI is safe and beneficial for everyone.
What can politicians do to protect and prepare us for AI's impacts?
Lots! Government can and should be doing things like passing laws that ban dangerous forms of AI, creating a Ministry of AI to oversee development, pushing for global talks, investing in AI safety solutions, and launching meaningful public consultations about what kind of future Canadians want.

How much time do we have?
Almost none. AI is being developed at breakneck speed, and many experts expect smarter-than-human AI—systems that can outperform us in almost all domains—could be developed in one to three years. That means this year's federal election is likely our last chance to push our leaders to action before the wave of job and safety impacts hits us.
